Reiki, what's that?

Reiki is an ancient healing technique that uses the positive energy of the universe, which is the energy that is all around us and in all living things. It’s a simple, natural, safe, gentle, non-invasive method of hands-on healing. Everyone and every living thing on the planet including Gaia itself can benefit from the healing effects of the channeling of this energy.

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Energy”. The Japanese word (Rei) means “Universal Life” and describes the universal and limitless energy. The Japanese word (Ki) means “Energy” the vital force that flows through all living things.

Reiki is used to activate the body’s internal healing process. When we are born, our bodies are pre-programmed to heal themselves. Reiki amplifies this process. This spiritual healing has numerous benefits. Here are some of the basic affects you can expect from Reiki. It brings about deep relaxation, stress reduction, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides renewed vitality, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. And that is only the beginning.

Adding Reiki healing as part of your overall health practice will enrich your life. It’s loving energy will bring happiness and health on many levels. This Universal Life Energy sustains life and promotes healing in all living things. By living and acting in a way that is in harmony with this energy we promote healing in our world and the lives of others.

Reiki is a subtle energy but that does not mean you won’t immediately feel the effects of its healing. Many claim to feel immediate relief from pain, anxiety, or fear. Others may take a while longer before they can truly feel the benefit.

The limit of Reiki is based on the person receiving the healing energy. Like with all spiritual practices, an open mind is needed. There needs to be a willingness to accept the healing being offered and to accept any changes that may come. You may find yourself in a position of wanting to cast off old unhealthy patterns and habits.

Think of Reiki like a radio, the energy is the radio waves and you or the practitioner is the antenna being tuned into this frequency. The practitioner tunes into the Reiki frequency so that it is clear and strong. The client is the listener and takes from it what is needed to heal physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

Reiki healers channel ki (energy) to heal an individual. These healers do not attempt to unblock a person’s Ki. Instead, they channel the Ki of the universe so that the person heals. This technique of healing speeds up the body’s ability to heal physical ailments. It opens the mind to find the root cause of the disease and pain. Once identified as the root cause, it can be released from the body. Reiki provides people with the means of maintaining balance in their own health.

Reiki should never replace the medical treatment for a person. Instead, Reiki should be used for it's positive healing qualities to compliment your existing treatment. This treatment is used to heal, restore and maintain a person's health and vitality.

Reiki practitioners are generally categorized into three main stages of expertise. A first-degree Reiki practitioner can heal themselves and others. The second-degree Reiki practitioner had the ability to heal others from a distance, also known as distance healing. The third-degree Reiki practitioner is known as a Reiki Master. This is the highest degree. At this point the practitioner is well equipped with the necessary knowledge and skill to teach and attune others to the practice of reiki.

Let’s answer a few questions that I’m often asked:

What happens during a session?

The Reiki healer / practitioner will offer this form of healing without the use of medications. This is 100% natural. Many healers do like to incorporate other tools such as crystals and aromatherapy. The practitioner will typically place their hands over the individual needing the healing. It is not necessary to place the hands directly on another person’s body. This is generally discussed between the healer and the one receiving the Reiki. The practitioner begins to channel the Universal life energy into their hands. The energy is then is drawn into or guided into the recipient to enhance the natural healing processes. In many cases, the practitioner is truly just a channel of this energy. They will be guided as to where to place their hands however the energy of the Universe knows where the healing is needed during the process.

What does Reiki feel like?

Reiki energy is a calming, relaxing energy that surrounds you and brings a natural state of peace to all areas of your body. Typically, you will feel a warm, tingling or pulsing sensation when hands are placed over a specific part of your body. Especially a part that is in need of specific healing.

Is Reiki harmful?

No, Reiki is based on Universal energy or light and love and cannot harm you. It can only bring positively charged energy to the body. Reiki energy knows exactly where it is needed. A Reiki practitioner never needs to diagnose or prescribe.

How many Reiki treatments are needed?

That depends on what you want from Reiki. It does not typically cure you overnight. Instead, Reiki opens your body to a world of healing energy. It gives your body the exact healing it needs. It is different for everyone.

Is Reiki only for people?

Reiki can benefit anything with a life force. Animals, plants, water, food and even the planet itself.

What can someone expect after a session of Reiki?

Shortly after your initial session you may begin to detoxify. I’d recommend increasing your water intake to help with elimination. You will likely also want to rest more especially during your first few sessions. Most people feel their energy and alertness increase daily and a feeling of overall well-being returns.

If you find yourself interested in Reiki, you are likely being guided on your healing journey. Trust in your intuition. Take control by allowing the Universe and your own body to heal itself. The goal of Reiki is to promote a return to a greater wholeness. Why not give Reiki a try. You may be surprised at the ways it improves your life.
